Chapter 21 contains 43 verses and it is divided into _ classes, totaling __ hours.
Krishna offers practical insights into purity and impurity, tailored for those bound by material existence. Far from esoteric ideals, these down-to-earth lessons clarify piety, proper conduct, and the nature of the material world—its elements, times, and places—guiding materialistic minds toward steadiness and the elevated platform of yoga. In this class, we covered verses 11.21.1-10.
Krishna continues explaining the process of purification of place, time, substance, doer, mantras and work, to become fully dharmic. But material considerations are by nature relative, so He also says that sometimes piety becomes sin, and sometimes sin becomes piety! We’ll explore how to best situate ourselves and not get confused. In this class, we covered verses 11.21.11-18.
In these verses, Krishna issues a stark warning: the pursuit of material sense objects ignites attachment, sparking lust and igniting quarrels among men. From this turmoil emerges an all-consuming anger, plunging the soul into the abyss of ignorance. Stripped of true intelligence, one stumbles through life—dull, purposeless, and lost in a shadowy existence, no better than a breathing corpse. Even scriptural promises of reward, the text reveals, are but fleeting lures, masking the deeper call to rise above this descent into darkness. In this class, we covered verses 11.21.19-21.
Krishna’s stark warning cuts through illusion: trapped in desire and ignorance, we stumble toward darkness. These verses demand a reckoning—self-realization over fleeting pleasures—before it’s too late. In this class, we covered verses 11.21.22-25.
Krishna’s timeless wisdom challenges the misuse of Vedic rituals for material gain. Superficial religiosity obscures true spiritual identity, leading to fleeting pleasures. Rejecting these illusions reveals the soul’s eternal essence. In this class, we covered verses 11.21.26-32.
New Uddhava Gita Class! In this class, we’ll see Krishna revealing the Vedas as a divine sound that illuminates the soul’s true nature. We’ll learn about the Vedic concept of attaining Svarga through rituals, the esoteric depth of Vedic wisdom, and the rise of the atheistic Mimamsa school, who mastered sacrifices but rejected belief in God, challenging traditional spiritual views. In this class, we covered verses 11.21.33-36.
Krishna explains to Uddhava how the Vedas are manifested by Him from OM, and that it’s complexity, people become confused and fail to understand the true purpose and meaning of the different Vedic injunctions. In this class, we covered verses 11.21.37-42.
